Do You Yoga!?!

Have you ever felt disconnected or unable to control your circumstances? Aromatherapy coupled with some simple centering yoga poses can help create a new sense of peace and purpose, leading to a renewal of resolution. Scientific research has shown that meditation during yoga together with aromatherapy is a combination of remarkable synergy, showing powerful effects on human emotions.

With centering properties in mind, doTERRA scientists worked with yoga specialist Elena Brower to develop doTERRA Align Centering Blend. doTERRA Align’s aroma—especially in combination with centering yoga exercises such as Warrior II, Triangle, and Gate—is perfect for helping you trust in yourself, feel relaxed, and stay engaged.

Composition

The ingredients in doTERRA Align were chosen primarily to create a centering aroma. Bergamot, Coriander, and Marjoram are the primary oils in this blend. Peppermint, Geranium, Basil, Rose, Jasmine, and Fractionated Coconut Oil are also included, although in smaller amounts, to create a sophisticated and beautiful aroma.

Bergamot essential oil has been studied for a variety of benefits related to mental and emotional health. The aroma of Bergamot is calming and uplifting, while also capable of reducing feelings of emotional negativity and stress.

It exerts its effects by calming the autonomic nervous system and reducing physiological parameters related to agitation and stress.

Coriander, called the “spice of happiness” by the ancient Egyptians, was thought to be an aphrodisiac.

Historically, the aroma of Coriander essential oil has been used for its calming and relaxing properties.

New scientific research supports these findings.

Marjoram is another essential oil that may have relaxing benefits.

Human clinical research suggests that a massage using Marjoram essential oil may help to relieve tense muscles.

Fractionated Coconut Oil contains short chain fatty acids that moisturize the skin, leaving it smooth and soft. It helps balance the blend and prevent sensitive skin reactions after topical use. The remaining oils in this blend, Basil, Geranium, Jasmine, Peppermint, and Rose, each contribute to a great diversity of constituents that work together to create a floral, herbaceous scent.

The other main compounds present in doTERRA Align are linalool, linalyl acetate, and sabinene hydrate (also known as thujanol), although these are found in smaller amounts. Linalool and linalyl acetate are known to be relaxing compounds, having centering effects when present in moderate quantities. For instance, experimental research suggests that diffusing linalool may help to promote feelings of calmness and relaxation.

How to Use

Whenever you are feeling apathetic and unfocused, diffuse doTERRA Align or use it topically in conjunction with a yoga routine. doTERRA Align is a neat oil, meaning that dilution is not necessary for safe application.

Emotions are a complex sum of the activity of multiple systems in the brain and body. For instance, think back to a day when you had a lot on your mind but just a few hours of sleep to get you through everything. Your central nervous system was probably agitated and stressed, while your peripheral nervous system probably felt sluggish and struggled to keep up. As you can see, a single stimulus can affect multiple body systems in different ways, causing a complex response that can be just as complex to manage. With this complexity in mind, doTERRA scientists and yoga specialist Elena Brower worked together to design doTERRA Arise, a new blend that helps calm the mind and energize the body. This unique combination of invigoration and relaxation promotes profound feelings like freedom, inspiration, and enlightenment.

Composition

The oils in doTERRA Arise Enlightening Blend were chosen carefully in order to create a blend with a beautiful aroma and powerful biological effects. Lemon, Grapefruit, Siberian Fir, Osmanthus, Melissa, and Fractionated Coconut Oil are the individual oils included in the doTERRA Arise blend. GC/MS analysis shows that the main chemical constituents in doTERRA Arise are limonene, beta-pinene, alpha pinene, bornyl acetate, and gamma terpinene.

Lemon and Grapefruit oil are both known for their energizing properties, which may be explained in part by their high limonene content. In one particular study on Lemon oil, researchers found that physiological parameters related to energy and arousal were significantly increased following inhalation of the oil.

Another similar study found that inhalation of limonene alone is sufficient to enhance alertness and other measures of bodily arousal.

Siberian Fir oil is rich in alpha-pinene, beta-pinene, and bornyl acetate, compounds that work by different mechanisms to calm and uplift the mind. One study used electroencephalogram (EEG) technology to show that alpha-pinene enhances the quality and duration of deep sleep.

Bornyl acetate calms the mind by relaxing the autonomic nervous system (ANS). Feelings of tension that we experience but cannot control are usually linked to this division of the nervous system, which operates outside of conscious control. Studies involving aromatic administration of Siberian Fir oil and its constituent bornyl acetate have demonstrated relaxing effects both on the ANS and the CNS.

Lastly, the constituent beta-pinene was included in the blend because it promotes feelings of happiness. Recent studies have shown that the uplifting effects of beta-pinene are explained by its interaction with the brain’s monoamine system.

Osmanthus and Melissa are floral oils that contain hundreds of compounds, including ketones, esters, ethers, alcohols, and aldehydes. Their diverse composition contributes to the unique aroma of the doTERRA Arise blend.

Fractionated Coconut Oil contains short chain fatty acids that moisturize the skin, leaving it smooth and soft. It helps balance the blend and prevent sensitive skin reactions after topical use.

Usage

doTERRA Arise can be used topically with or without dilution, and it can also be used aromatically. Diffuse this blend during your morning routine, during times of stress, or during yoga or a workout to experience a unique combination of invigoration and relaxation. Apply topically to promote feelings like freedom, inspiration, and enlightenment throughout the day.

Sometimes in this fast-paced, hectic world, you feel uprooted and unsure of yourself, with a mile long to-do-list and uncertain priorities. Overexertion, stress, physical discomfort, and agitation are increasingly common. Finding balance through aromatherapy and simple yoga poses can be an excellent first step to manage these side effects of daily life. doTERRA Anchor Steadying Blend is designed to calm the mind and soothe the body, helping you stay connected to yourself, your environment, your personal goals, and your daily activities.

Composition

The ingredients in doTERRA Anchor were chosen carefully to create a grounding blend. Lavender, Cedarwood, and Frankincense are the primary oils in this blend, but Black Pepper, Cinnamon, Patchouli, Sandalwood, and Fractionated Coconut Oil are also included in smaller amounts. GC/MS analysis shows that the Anchor blend is mainly composed of alpha- and beta-cedrene, cedrol, cinnamaldehyde, linalool, linalyl acetate, santalol, and thujopsene.

Cedarwood oil contributes the constituents alpha- and beta-cedrene, cedrol, and thujopsene. Historically, Cedarwood essential oil has been used for relaxing effects.

Recent clinical and experimental research suggests that cedrol has a calming aroma and can help to create a relaxing environment when diffused.

Frankincense is a powerful oil known to have many positive effects on the body. Its soothing and beautifying properties are used to rejuvenate skin. When inhaled or diffused, it promotes feelings of peace, relaxation, satisfaction, and overall wellness. Lavender oil contributes the constituents linalool and linalyl acetate. These constituents are known to promote relaxation.

In fact, two studies have actually shown that linalyl acetate and linalool when taken internally may work synergistically help to soothe and calm the nervous system,* although Align is for topical use only.

Cinnamon Bark oil contributes the constituent cinnamaldehyde to the Anchor blend. Cinnamaldehyde is a monoterpene aldehyde that is well documented for a variety of benefits.

Sandalwood oil is rich in santalol, a sesquiterpene alcohol compound known to help with relaxation.

Patchouli and Black Pepper oil, although present in smaller concentrations, add to the blend’s soothing and grounding effects.

Fractionated Coconut Oil contains short chain fatty acids that moisturize the skin, leaving it smooth and soft. It helps balance the blend and prevent sensitive skin reactions after topical use.

How to Use

doTERRA Anchor relaxes the mind and soothes skin. One way you can use doTERRA Anchor is by applying the blend to the ankles, base of the spine, and bottoms of feet before a yoga session. You might also try diffusing the blend to enjoy its aromatic benefits whenever you are feeling scattered or uprooted. The perfect yoga poses to pair with doTERRA Anchor’s aroma are Seated Meditation, Seated Twist, and Bhu Mudra. While this blend is great to use during yoga practice, you can experience the same benefits using it anytime during the day.
